A Weekend of Challenges

Thousands will gather at Winter Park in Colorado for some mucky merriment

On August 27, thousands of competitors will gather at Winter Park in Colorado for some mucky merriment.

The extra challenge here is that Winter Park is located 9,000 feet above sea level. The air is thinner and less oxygen is available. Albeit rare, people coming from lower elevations may experience altitude sickness, but precautions can be taken to avoid feeling ill on race weekend. We suggest arriving a day or two early and get acclimated by enjoying all the activities Winter Park has to offer such as Colorado’s Longest Alpine Slide! There are also Scenic Chairlift Rides, Climbing Wall, Disc Golf, Human Maze, Leaps & Bounds Bungee, Mini Golf, the NASA astronaut simulated GyroXtreme, T-Bar Mini Zip Line, and Mary Jane Mineral Panning. Best advice is simply that which you should practice days before a race anyway — increase fluid intake, decrease salt, alcohol and caffeine intake, and select high-carbohydrate, low-fat foods. By following these steps ahead of time, you’re sure to enjoy happy trails as you slosh through Saturday!
