Kiki M.

Since being diagnosed with MS 6 years ago, my sister, Lauryn, and I have always done our best to donate to the cause. She did the MS Mud Run Philly last year but insisted we do it together this year. Her friends Kim and Jaye also joined our team, “Kiki Likes It Dirty!”

I had been going to the gym on and off since we did the MS Challenge Walk two years ago but this Mud Run would prove much different than a walk, so I had to kick it up a notch. I began to hit the gym more consistently, and since starting this regimen and staying active for The Original Mud Run, I’ve experienced significant rewards. This is the first year I didn’t need steroids for my MS, because I didn’t have a flare up!

To raise money, we had an All-You-Can-Eat flap jack and sausage breakfast at Applebee’s with over 80 raffles. (Thanks to the help of our Aunt who did her own muddy leg work by running the raffles!) Our prizes included such items as; a free airline ticket anywhere in the US, Iron Pigs tickets, and a 2 night hotel stay. Our team raised $1400 dollars!

The Mud Run was a challenging (ie The Stairway To Heaven!) and an empowering experience. This was my first Mud Run but not my last! I am totally hooked!
I will look forward to this event yearly because it not only helped my confidence, but has helped keep my MS in check for now. Thanks Mud Run! I will keep pushing myself to get DIRTIER!
